ASEAN’s top private-sector advisory body and Asia’s largest social-investor network said on Thursday they will run a new regional platform to coordinate corporate social investment across Southeast Asia.

Market Impact

The ASEAN CSR Working Group, announced by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) and AVPN, will pool corporate philanthropy, CSR budgets and impact capital to support policy dialogue, cross-border partnerships and knowledge-sharing on issues such as climate transition, health resilience and MSME growth. AVPN will serve as secretariat for the group, which spans more than 40 markets and links corporate leaders, philanthropies, impact funds and development partners.

ASEAN-BAC estimates that over 70 million micro, small and medium-sized enterprises—97% of all businesses in the region—face structural barriers to scaling, including limited access to mentorship, markets and capital.

“This collaboration reflects a critical shift from fragmented efforts to a more coordinated, regional approach to corporate social investment,” said Achal Agarwal, chair of AVPN. “ASEAN is one of the fastest-growing markets globally, and its corporate leaders have a real opportunity to shape the future of sustainability through collective regional action.”

The working group will review early corporate engagement in Singapore and Vietnam that showed demand for more strategic, cross-border deployment of capital rather than one-off programmes. AVPN will also lead knowledge-building initiatives and corporate excellence frameworks to recognise leadership in social innovation.

“By establishing this Working Group, ASEAN-BAC is strengthening regional collaboration through more connected ecosystem engagement and multi-stakeholder dialogue,” said Rifki Weno, executive director of ASEAN-BAC. “We are creating a regional platform to ensure that corporate capital is deployed in ways that support ASEAN’s sustainable development priorities.”

The platform will convene stakeholders through in-person and virtual formats and align private-sector action with regional priorities such as inclusive growth and climate transition. It builds on ASEAN-BAC’s mandate to provide strategic business insights to ASEAN leaders and support regional economic integration.

For Malaysian business readers, the initiative offers a direct channel to pool CSR budgets and impact capital with regional peers, reducing duplication and increasing the scale of projects that address shared challenges such as MSME financing and green transition.
