Sky47 opens Pakistan's largest AI cloud hub with sovereign data push

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 JULY 2026 —

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated Sky47, Pakistan’s largest AI cloud and data centre in Rawalpindi, calling it a landmark step toward a “forward-looking Pakistan” and a model for future infrastructure.

The facility, named Karakoram-01, delivers sovereign cloud infrastructure, AI computing, cybersecurity and managed services for government, banking, telecoms, healthcare and technology sectors, according to Sky47 Limited, a majority-owned unit of Mari Energies Limited.

Speaking at the ceremony, the premier hailed the project as “remarkable and truly inspiring,” built in record time by Pakistan’s top civilian and military talent. He credited Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s leadership and vowed the model would help recoup past losses and accelerate national progress.

Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja called the centre “a step in the right direction,” saying it laid the groundwork for the “most important economic unit today: token intelligence.” She framed Pakistan’s young, large and capable population as a strategic advantage.

Sky47 Limited said the centre supports AI, machine learning and high-performance workloads while securing sensitive domestic and commercial data. Its launch coincides with rising demand for local cloud computing and data localisation across businesses and public institutions.

The company disclosed the launch via the Pakistan Stock Exchange, positioning Karakoram-01 as a domestic alternative for advanced computing needs.
